What a DAY! What a day! I had the ride of my life, thanks to friend and pilot Ned Sullivan. We went on a mission to photograph two estates for Badger Realty in North Conway, and while we were up...of course a few scenics! I will include our flight over Conway Lake, then OVER the Cold River Vodka potato fields in Maine, Evans Notch, and of course the notable Mount Washington Resort. Dick Badger, owner of Badger Realty, receives the 2008 MWV Chamber of Commerce Entrepreneur of the Year award and in turn gives it to the late Steve Eastman and Jens Friends Cancer Foundation. Steve just passed last week and for those who didn't know him, he was one of the founders of the Mountain Ear Newspaper.

These photos were all from the B2B. Highlights to note:
Flatbread Pizza in North Conway is buying locally grown farm fresh produce as soon as veggies are ready :) and from what I gathered they will be working with farmers in VT for meat as well? Hope that's right. That will be great for visitors to eat true local flavor.

Thomas Palma from the NH Electric Co-op had this great display showing you how 1 Compact Flourcent light bulb is = to the energy consumption of 4 regular light bulbs! If you are interested in PV Grid Tie Solar Electricity for your house and you are in the NHEC coverage area, check out their website www.nhec.coop. On another energy note, I got an awesome tote bag from the Mount Washington Chamber Green Team for the Mount Washington Valley Climate Challenge in Conjuncion with the NH Carbon Challenge.
I can use totes at Hannaford grocery store in NConway and get $0.05 back for each bag I bring in. Their presence was to bring awareness to how we can all lower our carbon footprint on the planet. I think I'm off to a good start with my house - have a look here. I also got a great tote from Northway Bank. Northway Bank just helped me close my loan on my house - Kathy Sanderson (in photo) was great to work with. I love keeping my business local!

Just a few from a recent email I got:

Fact #4: Real estate is cyclical. The biggest fear in good times is that the fair weather won’t last forever—because it doesn’t. But the reality of a cyclical real estate market also provides its brightest hope in bad times—foul weather won’t last forever either. What’s happening today is a market correction, severe in some places, but it’s not the end of the world. As shown by Fact #1, people are still buying and selling homes. The markets will stabilize.

Fact #5: 2008 is the best year to buy a home in 35 years. 1973 was the last time mortgage rates were this low in a buyer’s market. We had rates this low in 2001 and 2002, but those were strong seller’s markets with little inventory. The last two big buyer’s markets, in the early ‘80s and early ‘90s had much higher rates. Low rates and good inventory make 2008 the best year to buy in decades!

Congratulations to Kevin Killourie of Badger Realty for safely ending his season on a high note, with a 3rd place finish for race 10 and 4th place finish overall. Kevin lead Team "Badger Realty Racing" to a 4th place overall finish in this 17 team league weekly series. Meghan Simone of Badger Realty also took home 3rd for the night, and 3rd in "A women" for the season.

Other ringers on the team were Nate Camille taking 3rd overall in the "B Men" and weekly team companions Donny Chase III (Wildcat Service Station, Jackson NH), Collin Sullivan-Stevens (From "Field", Portland ME) and his Portland Carpool-Mate Peter Eiermann (from Port City Studios, Portland ME). Just a quick "Thank You" to my sister and parents for coming over a few weeks ago to watch me race! My sister got to take a run, and she beat me by 2 seconds... she took home first place in her Race League at Gunstock. Nice work Mia!

The local Moat Mountain Smokehouse and Brewing company team "Moat Growlers" have imported some ringers, allowing them to take top honors in the Male and Female division weekly. Collin Sullivan-Stevens, Pete Eiermann also drafted from the Portland area, and Don Chase, Nate Camielle, and Dave Eiermann add solid results to Team Badger on a weekly basis. This week was truly "Racing with the Moon" as a HUGE HARVEST MOON rose over Portland. Too bad I didn't have my camera for that moment. It was amazing!

Condo sales for the Month of December in Bartlett, NH totalled 6. Conway 5. The average price in Bartlett closing at $192,317 and in Conway $153,340. Average Days on Market were longer in Bartlett, 241 vs. 190 in Conway.

Interest rates are low, and hopefully getting lower, it's a great time to buy, if you can make it work for you! Don't stretch your self thin if you still have to figure out how to put one more kid into college - there will be a right time for every buyer out there. Mountain Meisters Week #2 - Cranmore Mountain

If you live here in the Mount Washington Valley, or if you want to join a team and come up/over for the day...you can do Mountain Meisters at Cranmore every Wed for 10 weeks in the winter. A social event that people of all skiing abilities can have fun at. Some people are very serious, and wear GS suits, others just want to get out and ski one day a week. Some teams end up being free if you have sponsors. It's a win-win for all. Just another fun perk of living in the White Mountains. Today I ran into friends I haven't seen in weeks and got some good exercise on my lunch break. You can see in the photos another blue bird day here in North Conway. Below (click to make larger) the practice course on the Left and the regular Nastar style course on the Right. You can go yellow or green - but you only get one run. Brett Newton in Badger Realty's Rental Department is a top Male racer at Meisters. Kevin Killourie a top racer at Shawnee Peak on Wed nights where I also race.

Nordic Skiing in Jackson Village

If you have always dreamed of skiing right from your door - or at least minutes from home, you need to consider living in Jackson, NH -a world famous classic New England Ski Town, rich in ski history. Badger Realty is located in Picturesque Jackson Village right across from the Snowflake Inn and next to the Wildcat Tavern. Right now there are two condos offered trail side on the Wentworth Golf Course. Condos at the Wentworth aren't always on the market, and when they do hit, they usually go fast. Bob and Emily Koch, of Salem, Mass., have purchased the Wildflowers Inn in North Conway from Brian and Denise Varney and family, who owned and operated the inn for over two years.
The sale was announced by Badger Realty, which served as disclosed dual agent for the buyers and sellers.
Buyer Emily Fen Koch has an impressive background in the hospitality Industry. She obtained her degree in hospitality management from the Australian College of Travel and Hospitality and has worked for The Regent; a five-star, four-seasons hotel in Taipei, Taiwan. Since moving to the United States in 1996, Emily has been involved in property management in the Beverly, Mass., area.
Bob Koch has extensive planning, cost control, financial management, and leadership experience with the Raytheon Company, where he has been employed for over 33 years. He earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration/accounting from Babson College.
"It has been a successful seven-year plan for the Koch’s to transition from personal property management to the bed-and-breakfast industry," said David Cianciolo, of Badger Realty. "Their search led them to the Mount Washington Valley with the purchase of the Wildflowers Inn."

Badger Buyers purchase Buttonwood Inn

Bill and Paula Petrone, of Piscataway, N.J., recently purchased the Buttonwood Inn, located on Mount Surprise Road in Kearsarge, from Jeffrey and Elizabeth Richards, innkeepers there for five years.
The sale was announced by Badger Realty, which represented the buyers, and Coldwell Banker Wright Realty, which represented the sellers.
The Buttonwood Inn, a 10-room bed-and-breakfast inn, is a member of the Select Registry of Inns in North America and New Hampshire.
The Petrones have aspired to be Innkeepers for several years. Paula Petrone holds a bachelor of science degree in food-service management and has practical experience in the restaurant industry. Previously, she worked as a senior analyst in market research in the pharmaceutical industry. Bill Petrone holds a degree in industrial engineering as well as a masters in business administration.
Jeffrey and Elizabeth Richards held a reception earlier this month at May Kelly’s Cottage to introduce the Petrones to fellow innkeepers.
The Petrones say they look forward to maintaining the "same charm and amiable nature the Richards and the Buttonwood Inn have conveyed to their guests in the past."

Bill Barbin Joins Badger Realty

CONWAY — Bill Barbin has joined Badger Realty in North Conway, co-owners Dick Badger and Brenda Leavitt announced.
Barbin comes to Badger after most recently working for the Bean Group in Portsmouth. He is licensed in both New Hampshire and Maine and will be working as a residential broker, as well as overseeing commercial leasing.
Barbin arrived in the Mount Washington Valley almost five years ago, after more than a decade as a deputy sheriff in Essex County, Mass. His love for the valley dates back to his childhood, as his family would frequently vacation here.
Barbin and his wife, Kristin, who is a native of North Conway, and 18-month-old son, Quinn, currently reside in Conway. He is a volunteer firefighter and wilderness EMT with Conway Village Fire and Rescue Department.
