Sustainable Connections - Consider being "LOCAL" in NH
I am very much interested in "Buy Local" campaigns. I was out driving the Western, ME countryside for work this a.m. and realized how many defunt farms exist in our "Valley" ... if only we could revive that part of our economy! With the current state of the US, and gas prices soaring, don't you think buying local and being local is going to become a lot more important?
Sustainable Connetions Website
"We work with local, independently owned businesses that have the autonomy to make any transformational change in their business that they can imagine… reexamining where we buy goods and services, how we consume energy, grow and distribute our food, build homes, and even, how we define success in business. Sustainable Connections is supporting a community of innovators in green building, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, supporting independent businesses in town centers, and mentoring a new breed of entrepreneurs that have designed their business with a sustainable vision."
Please take a minute to click through to any of the highlighted words above. Link Local, Be local, By local.

Badger Realty North Conway NH Sponsors Kismet Rock Jubilee
Badger Realty was a presenting sponsor of this weekends Kismet Rock Foundation Jubilee.
The Jubilee is THE annual event for Kismet Rock Foundation! All enjoyed the festive occasion which included dinner (catered by White Mountain Cider Company), live music, dancing, a very popular silent auction, and student presentations.
Kismet Rock Foundation (KRF) offers comprehensive courses in rock climbing and mountaineering to children who, because of financial limitations, would not otherwise have access to such an education. Based in North Conway, KRF accepts emotionally stable and well-functioning youth from both urban and rural areas into its programs. KRF’s goal is to offer children an opportunity to benefit from the immense value inherent in a climbing education.

2008 Mt. Washington Valley Business 2 Business Expo at the Mt. Washington Resort
Dick Badger, owner of Badger Realty, receives the 2008 MWV Chamber of Commerce Entrepreneur of the Year award and in turn gives it to the late Steve Eastman and Jens Friends Cancer Foundation. Steve just passed last week and for those who didn't know him, he was one of the founders of the Mountain Ear Newspaper.
These photos were all from the B2B. Highlights to note:
Flatbread Pizza in North Conway is buying locally grown farm fresh produce as soon as veggies are ready :) and from what I gathered they will be working with farmers in VT for meat as well? Hope that's right. That will be great for visitors to eat true local flavor.
Thomas Palma from the NH Electric Co-op had this great display showing you how 1 Compact Flourcent light bulb is = to the energy consumption of 4 regular light bulbs! If you are interested in PV Grid Tie Solar Electricity for your house and you are in the NHEC coverage area, check out their website www.nhec.coop. On another energy note, I got an awesome tote bag from the Mount Washington Chamber Green Team for the Mount Washington Valley Climate Challenge in Conjuncion with the NH Carbon Challenge.
I can use totes at Hannaford grocery store in NConway and get $0.05 back for each bag I bring in. Their presence was to bring awareness to how we can all lower our carbon footprint on the planet. I think I'm off to a good start with my house - have a look here. I also got a great tote from Northway Bank. Northway Bank just helped me close my loan on my house - Kathy Sanderson (in photo) was great to work with. I love keeping my business local!

Fuel Costs Frightening You? Consider a Pre Buy...
How our Group Buying Works!!
OTEA combines its members fuel requirements, and then negotiates a volume buy with a number of fuel dealers covering New Hampshire, most of Maine and Vermont and much of Massachusetts. (See map for detailed coverage ).
We then notify the members who have signed up for that round of bidding. You choose to accept the fuel company and prices or reject it. If you accept it, you then work with the fuel dealer as you would normally. You request a service contract if desired and pay the dealer directly for fuel, not OTEA.
We have several bids annually. Usually the first bid is the cheapest and prices get higher as we get towards the heating season. If you miss the first deadline, it's not too late to join but prices may be higher.
The only DIFFERENCE is the price you pay!!
Add your fuel needs to our 7,700,000 gallons; Help us get even better prices for you and your neighbors!!

NH Real Estate Facts ...
Just a few from a recent email I got:
Fact #4: Real estate is cyclical. The biggest fear in good times is that the fair weather won’t last forever—because it doesn’t. But the reality of a cyclical real estate market also provides its brightest hope in bad times—foul weather won’t last forever either. What’s happening today is a market correction, severe in some places, but it’s not the end of the world. As shown by Fact #1, people are still buying and selling homes. The markets will stabilize.
Fact #5: 2008 is the best year to buy a home in 35 years. 1973 was the last time mortgage rates were this low in a buyer’s market. We had rates this low in 2001 and 2002, but those were strong seller’s markets with little inventory. The last two big buyer’s markets, in the early ‘80s and early ‘90s had much higher rates. Low rates and good inventory make 2008 the best year to buy in decades!

MLS: 2713943 Conway, NH - 12 bed, 8 bath!
I recently photographed a new Badger Listing and was overly impressed with the size and space of their dining room and kitchen - actually two of the three kitchens. One large, spacious for potential BandB cooking, and the other out back, more crisp, clean, simple. The dining room perfectly complimented with built-in's to feature local craft or dining room decor. It was so nice I asked the owners if I could share photos. Visit Badger Realty and enter in MLS: 2713943, listed by David Cianciolo.

Dana Clemons: White Mountain Photography.Naked Walls In Your New Home?
Dana Clemons from White Mountain Photography in Jackson, NH recently moved his gallery to the The Snowflake Inn, in Jackson... a perfect place to stop off if you are looking to deck your walls with images of the White Mountains... or perhaps you want to take a print home as inspiration to visit again.
His prints make great: House Warming Gifts, Wedding Gifts, Anniversary or Birthday Presents, or "just because" they are visually spectacular! He even has pre-framed "grab & go" smaller prints if you are traveling.
Dana's favorite place to be, is high on top of a peak in the early hours of the morning, where the quiet is only broken by the song of a lone Wood Thrush, and the soft blow of the wind. He enjoys the rich varied colors of New England, and loves to combine them with water or snow to create some drama.
He primarily shoots transparency film for his fine art photography, using heavier medium format equipment.
With complete control over the entire process, he produces a fine art print using only quality archival ink and paper, tastefully framed, always under UV glass. Prints that will last a lifetime.
The complete collection of prints can be seen at the gallery. Thursday-Saturday, and Monday. Visitors are always welcome to come browse or “talk shop”. You might want to call him first at 603-383-4300, as he might be out pursuing his passion!

268 MacGregor Hill Road: Chocorua, NH
Recently Reduced to $419,900 this rare offering in the Chocorua Lake Association is a preserved oasis of privacy nestled under the tall pines. The Chocorua Lake Association works hard to preserve the integrity of the Chocorua area, many of you drive through it on Rt 16 as you head into Conway by Chocorua Lake. What you see it what you get... and hopefully for years and generations to come. The CLA has bought up most of the land over the years and the protective covenants make this a true nature lovers paradise.

Racing with the Moon at Shawnee Peak
L to R: Pete, Colin, Kevin, Dave, Donnie - Meg & Nate not in photo.
The local Moat Mountain Smokehouse and Brewing company team "Moat Growlers" have imported some ringers, allowing them to take top honors in the Male and Female division weekly. Collin Sullivan-Stevens, Pete Eiermann also drafted from the Portland area, and Don Chase, Nate Camielle, and Dave Eiermann add solid results to Team Badger on a weekly basis. This week was truly "Racing with the Moon" as a HUGE HARVEST MOON rose over Portland. Too bad I didn't have my camera for that moment. It was amazing!

Badger Realty: Condo Sales in the Mt. Washington Valley
Interest rates are low, and hopefully getting lower, it's a great time to buy, if you can make it work for you! Don't stretch your self thin if you still have to figure out how to put one more kid into college - there will be a right time for every buyer out there. If you need to refinance call me and I would be happy to recommend great local lenders to the Mount Washington Valley.
Condos I personally feel are "hot" right now in Bartlett: Seasons at Attitash Penthouse Units, Top Notch, and Mountainview at Linderhof (the ones at the top of the hill that are contemporary in style - one of the best views in the valley! In my opinion...)

Nordic Skiing in Jackson Village
If you have always dreamed of skiing right from your door - or at least minutes from home, you need to consider living in Jackson, NH -a world famous classic New England Ski Town, rich in ski history. Badger Realty is located in Picturesque Jackson Village right across from the Snowflake Inn and next to the Wildcat Tavern. Right now there are two condos offered trail side on the Wentworth Golf Course. Condos at the Wentworth aren't always on the market, and when they do hit, they usually go fast. One unit has been recently upgraded and remodeled, and the Wentworth does have an on site rental program if you don't plan on living there full time. (Some Scenery from "Around Jackson" on 1/15)
This afternoon I was on assignment to photograph this new listing, (photos below) and thought why not enjoy one of the many reasons why I live here - so I grabbed the skinny skis and into the woods we went. You can ski from Jackson Village up to the Eagle Mountain House. It was sundown, so as the light crept behind Green Hill we zoomed around the Golf Course at the Eagle and then headed back to the Village. There are many levels of Nordic Skiing available at Jackson Ski Touring and they do offer lessons. If you live here, or visit on Fridays you should join the Friday Gliders Social Ski... after all, why not apres! Ski, wine, massage... it just keeps getting better and better - Jackson NH - it's where you want to be!
Call Meghan at Badger Realty to hear more about residential offerings in Jackson. 603-356-5757 or meg@badgerrealty.com
